Is July good for Caribbean cruises?

This is one of the most common questions we hear over and over. The answer depends on why you are thinking to cruise the Caribbean in July? Are you asking because of the weather conditions? Or because of the pricing? Or are there any other factors that could influence your cruise timing?

Choosing when to take a Caribbean cruise is of course based on when is convenient for you to take your holidays, however Caribbean cruise prices and weather conditions should be taken into account.

The Caribbean are located just south of the equator which means that although the winds do get up, the temperatures themselves rarely dip below 72 degrees, and while there are rainfalls, the average rainfall during winter (July – November) is around 5 inches over an average of 10 days of rainfall, more or less the same as in the peak season (December) which sees an average of 3.7 inches over 11 rainfall days.

The peak season for the Caribbean is June to the second week of August. Hurricanes can occur in Fall, but this period of time is quite long and for the most part there are no hurricanes or even very strong winds in the Caribbean at this time. In addition modern Caribbean cruise ships are very well equipped to handle choppy weather and avoid dangerous weather. Hurricanes are not anymore a concern nowadays.

Nevertheless in the peak season meaning June to the second week of August you will be paying high fares due to what is called “Peak Family Vacation Time”. The rates drop substantially after this time.

Autumn and winter months provide the most economical times to take a Caribbean cruise as well as the least crowded ships. I recommend the Fall months up to the second week of December, and the first 3 weeks of January to secure the lowest rates for a Caribbean cruise.

In short YES, July is a good time, based on weather conditions but pricewise, it is not the best time.
