For an incredible family holiday take a break on The Oasis of the Seas, it is so much more than a cruise ship, it’s a holiday destination in its self. They have everything you need on one ship, split up into different ‘neighborhoods’ with plenty of things for the whole family to do.

There are plenty of events going on all over the ship from day to night, during the day for those who are adventurous you can go on the SeaTrek Scuba Diving, the FlowRider surf simulator, or climb the rock wall, you can also go on shore & land excursions, maybe show off your families knowledge by taking part in onboard game shows and trivia contests and visit Johnny Rockets and Ben & Jerry’s for a treat to eat. You can spend time looking round some of the neighborhoods like Central Park which combines nature with nautical, the Board Walk that has plenty of café’s, restaurants and snack shops, and you can indulge your kids in some retail therapy, or the Royal Promenade that is at the heart of the ship with even more places to eat and drink and not forgetting places to shop. In the evening these neighborhoods transform into bustling entertainment areas where you can enjoy an evening meal before watching an ice-skating show or the family entertainers in the Comedy Club.

Celebrity Cruises have some of the most luxurious cruise ships in the world, all are to a very high standard with modern luxuries mixed in with timeless elegance, the Celebrity Infinity is no exception, one of four ships in the Celebrity Millennium class range of cruise ships, opulence seems to be the main style here, the Infinity has polished marble and etched glass interiors mirrored with prestige and breathtaking elegance. It’s not just the ship that’s finished to a high standard, with one member of staff to every two guests, the quality of service is also exceptional, and staff will also take the time to get to know you and your needs throughout your stay.

You can cruise the Panama Canal, visit the Falkland Islands, South America or take a Transatlantic Cruise on the Infinity. When you are not visiting a port there is plenty to do with your time onboard. For health and fitness fanatics the ship has a wide range of activities like the jogging circuit around the ship, a state of the art gym and an acupuncture clinic. If you’re looking to relax while onboard then there a plenty of places to go to like the Aquaspa, or therapy treatment rooms and of course the hair salon and if you want a quiet escape go to the ships two tiered library. However if retail therapy is more you thing then there are plenty of shops and specalised boutiques, you can then stop off at many of the onboard cafes and afterwards sit in the tranquil Persian Garden. There are also plenty of fun things for younger people to enjoy like Breezes pool, Ship Mates Fun Factory and a video game arcade. Then on an evening you have a choice of various specialty restaurants with a wide choice of international cuisines and there are plenty of places to meet for after dinner drinks, before you catch the evening entertainment in the celebrity theatre, watch a movie in the cinema or head off to Fortunes Casino.

Celebrity Cruises are perfect for adults and families alike and the infinite is a comfortable, exclusive and relaxing way to see the world.

The best cruise for kids are the ones offering:

a full day of supervised activities on sea and port days

spacious and bright playrooms

after-hours group and private babysitting

outdoor play space

mini fridges in all cabins

children’s menus and activities at the restaurants

possibility to dine with the youth counselors in the evenings

activities that range from arts and crafts, to basic science projects, free play, computer games, karaoke and pizza parties, story and movie time, and more.

Based on this criteria the best ones are:

Disney Cruise Lines

Carnival Cruise Lines

Royal Carnival Cruise Lines

Disney Cruise Lines

Obviously these ships have been designed for children in mind. Disney Cruise Lines outperform every other major cruise line in offering services for children who are at least 12 weeks old and less than 3 years old.

Children can participate in organized programs or enjoy activities available all day long throughout the ship.

Children may make new friends, watch television, play videogames, listen to music, surf the Internet and enjoy a variety of social activities throughout the day by going to the many youth clubs onboard.

They could also slip and slide down into Mickey’s Pool, splash and have fun in the sun in Goofy’s Family Pool. These are the only ships having pools with separate filtration systems that allow diapered tots to swim, competing cruise lines generally prohibit diapers in all of their pools.

Your children could also watch a Disney movie in one of the theatres, play a board game or learn how to draw Mickey Mouse. Play video games or go to one of the live entertainment shows featuring some of Disney’s characters.

You could also enjoy character greetings, allowing your children and yourself to meet and greet Disney Characters, this occurs all day long, throughout the ship, both in designated places and during special surprises appearances.

Having a packing list is essential. I learned this the hard way by forgetting essential items and having to pay for them the hard price onboard or in the ports of call.

First, to be on the safe side, make sure to split your items on several luggages. If one is lost at least your partner and/or your family members will have something to wear.

Second, make sure to have everything you will need to live for a couple of days in your carry-on bag in case your luggage is lost or delayed for any reason.

Use this list as a starting point and adapt it to the kind of cruise you will be taking. I don’t think you will need all these items but this comprehensive list should help you not to forget anything.

Alternatively, you can scan the documents and email an electronic copy to yourself so that you can access them from any computer through the internet.

For a long time the concept of a last minute cheap cruise was to go to the pier and get a great deal or by calling the cruise line the night before the ship sailed. Since 9/11/2001 this cannot happen anymore, cruise lines must have the passenger manifest complete up to 24 to 48 hours prior to sailing. Don’t let the new laws discourage you, it is still possible to get last minute cheap cruises deals. Today planning a cruise 6 months in advance is short term planning.

Where to look for last minute cheap cruise fares?

When looking for a last minute cheap cruise deal first search the internet and look at the cruise websites for the cruise deals they offer. If you don’t find prices in the range you are looking for go to discount cruise travel websites such as Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, Travelzoo or Lastminutecruises. Most of the travel companies offer extensive information about bookings and reservations on their websites. The internet is a great place to look for last minute cheap cruise fares and find fantastic savings.

Finally don’t forget your own travel agent. Make sure that he/she will think of you when last minute cheap cruise deals come across the fax or the mail.

The best time to look for last minute cheap cruises

The most preferred time to find last minute prices on a specific cruise is 1 to 3 months before the departure. Why? It’s because this is the final call for travelers to cancel existing reservations without getting a penalty. At this stage, the cruise line knows exactly how many cabins are left and will decrease the fare so they can sell out the ship.

Avoid Peak Travel Seasons

Most of the time last minute cheap cruises deals are not found over the holidays. Don’t plan on taking a cruise during peak holiday seasons such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Also the Spring Break and Easter Holiday are not good time either.

For example you are more likely to find last minute cheap cruises in the Caribbean during hurricane season (September – early November), but be prepared to have your cruise canceled or postponed, or during the pre-holiday break (first weeks of December) and the post-holiday break (first weeks of January).

Look For Repositioning Cruises

Fall and spring are actually the prime times of the year for repositioning cruises. Some ships sail 365 days a year the same itinerary, or at least in the same region. Lots of these ships relocate a few times a year based on the season. For example some will sail from Canada/New England to the Caribbean, or Alaska to Hawaii. Cruise lines sell these one-way itineraries rather than sail the ships without passengers. These trips are known as repositioning cruises. Per-diem prices for repositioning cruises are much lower than for regular cruises. These trips make great last minute cheap cruises.

These trips are usually longer, sometimes two weeks instead of seven days and up to a month in some cases, include many sea days, and come by lots of ports, all at a reasonable price. They feature themes on subjects ranging from theater to wine, or offer options like guest lecturers. Note that on the bad side you are responsible to buy expensive one-way airfares because generally these trips start in one port and end up in another, sometimes what may be a last minute cruise deal can turn out to be an expensive cruise.

To find these repositioning cruise think of regions that are season related year after year. Alaskan cruisers have no choice but to get away in September or October, most of the time offering unique routes along the California coast, through the Panama Canal or to Hawaii. The same way in springtime the ships will have to relocate to the Alaskan area. For example in fall and spring transatlantic ships will reposition from the East Coast (like New York or Ft. Lauderdale) to Europe for Mediterranean cruises. These are examples but you have many repositioning cruises all over the world like Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Are you a repeat customer?

Many cruise lines offer incentives to their actual customers to cruise with them again. These rewards can be discounts, stateroom upgrades, or onboard spending credits. Some cruise lines have travelers clubs and offer to their members special events or receptions, increasing the perceived value of the last minute cruise.

Read the Fine Print

This is very important and obviously applies to every transaction that you make. Please read the offer very carefully because it will tell you exactly what your package entitles you. Is it the right cabin type? Is the price per person? Is it single or double occupancy? Are service fees, government taxes and port charges included in the price? Is it really all inclusive?

If you are like me you will want to avoid crowds and wasting time in lines and spend your time enjoying your Caribbean cruise. No need to rush to the spa on embarkation day, only to guarantee you that hot-candle-wax treatment on the second sea day. Why wait in long lines to reserve a romantic dinner at onboard specialty restaurants?

Caribbean cruise lines have expanded greatly options for online reservations. Whether it’s pre-booking, restaurant reservations, shore excursions and/or spa treatments, cruisers can spend less time queuing up onboard and have more fun enjoying Caribbean cruise activities.

But first look at the “Price Guarantee” policy to make sure that if there is a price drop before you sail, you will be able to benefit from it. In addition this will allow you to book early and have access to a much wider choice of staterooms and availability on your desired departure date.

Royal Caribbean and Carnival offer this kind of guarantee. For example Royal Caribbean passengers who reserve early and later find a lower advertised price by Royal Caribbean for the same ship, sail date and cabin category can receive the full difference in price as an onboard credit to spend on cocktails, specialty dining, spa services and any other onboard purchases. Any money unspent onboard will be refunded at the end of the Caribbean cruise.

Once you have your booking confirmation number, you can log on to your Caribbean cruise line’s website and customize the rest of your cruise. Most of the time you will be able to make pre-reservations for a multitude of onboard activities.

But beware don’t lose spontaneity, pre-planning is ok, but if you overdo it you could be missing activities you did not know would or could be great. It is not always possible to pre-book all onboard activities. To be on the safe side always ask what is the cancellation policy for each activity in case you want to change activities without losing money.

For example shore excursions can be pre-booked online prior to sailing based on the Caribbean cruise line. You will also be able to pre-reserve spa treatments online as well as ordering special gifts and packages, reserving tables at specialty restaurants, filling out your passenger declaration form, booking hotels and airport parking and many other options.

In fact today you can pre-book almost everything from the cruise itself to almost all the activities. Frankly the choice is yours and will be based on the kind of person you are. My father for example has to plan everything in advance when he travels, this is the only way for him to feel in control, safe and secure. In my case, I am the opposite I like improvisation and prefer not to plan anything in advance. I will book my Caribbean cruise and let life surprise me.

This is one of the most common questions we hear over and over. The answer depends on why you are thinking to cruise the Caribbean in July? Are you asking because of the weather conditions? Or because of the pricing? Or are there any other factors that could influence your cruise timing?

Choosing when to take a Caribbean cruise is of course based on when is convenient for you to take your holidays, however Caribbean cruise prices and weather conditions should be taken into account.

The Caribbean are located just south of the equator which means that although the winds do get up, the temperatures themselves rarely dip below 72 degrees, and while there are rainfalls, the average rainfall during winter (July – November) is around 5 inches over an average of 10 days of rainfall, more or less the same as in the peak season (December) which sees an average of 3.7 inches over 11 rainfall days.

The peak season for the Caribbean is June to the second week of August. Hurricanes can occur in Fall, but this period of time is quite long and for the most part there are no hurricanes or even very strong winds in the Caribbean at this time. In addition modern Caribbean cruise ships are very well equipped to handle choppy weather and avoid dangerous weather. Hurricanes are not anymore a concern nowadays.

Nevertheless in the peak season meaning June to the second week of August you will be paying high fares due to what is called “Peak Family Vacation Time”. The rates drop substantially after this time.

Autumn and winter months provide the most economical times to take a Caribbean cruise as well as the least crowded ships. I recommend the Fall months up to the second week of December, and the first 3 weeks of January to secure the lowest rates for a Caribbean cruise.

In short YES, July is a good time, based on weather conditions but pricewise, it is not the best time.

The best time to go to Hawaii is more based on personal reasons than on seasons. The best time to visit Hawaii can be decided by the most affordable time to visit or simply by when your holiday times are or based on the following conditions:

1.- July – September: little hot.

2.- November – January: wettest, but usually not bad.

3.- mid December – mid February: roughest seas, especially January.

4.- January – March: peak whale season.

5.- December: Christmas decorations, got to love it.

6.- July 4th & December 31st: fireworks.

The seas are usually a little rougher in the spring. That is when they have those huge surfing waves! Of course it’s the ocean and it can be calm or rough any time.

Note that the ocean is not as warm as the Caribbean. Don’t think that the water is as warm as in the Caribbean. Hawaii does not have the benefit of the gulf stream. This is one of the main reasons for the difference. The other is that Hawaii is far from the main land, whereas the Caribbean has land masses all around it. In addition, a good portion of the Caribbean is closer to the equator than Hawaii. All these three facts together explain why Hawaii’s ocean temperatures are not as warm as in the Caribbean.

No matter when you go, it will rain at some point. It rains every day in Hawaii. Most of the time these are showers that come and go. The west sides of the islands are typically much drier and calmer than the windward sides. March is lovely. Even rainy days in Hawaii are lovely. If you are looking for the season with less rain, then summer and early fall are your best bet.

By going to www.weatherunderground.com you can get weather history for a specific location for a specific time of the year. Make sure to click on individual dates. Don’t assume that it rained all day simply because it shows rain on the calendar. By clicking on an individual date, you can tell when the rain was on that very same day. Very often it is very early in the morning or very late at night.

Pricewise you will always get the best deals when schools are in session. So, the summer prices tend to be higher as are the prices around Christmas and spring break. After Easter is a great time. Also, in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas there are some really good deals. Finally in September, after the kids are back in school the deals can be very good also.
